Summary

The Micromax 8500 is a point-of-use drinking-water system installed under the kitchen sink. Water passes through sediment filtration, activated carbon, ultrafiltration, a reverse-osmosis membrane, and a final carbon-block polish before reaching a dedicated faucet. It operates on household water pressure and uses no electricity.

Who should consider it

  • Households that want certified reduction of specific dissolved contaminants in drinking and cooking water.
  • Homes that already soften or filter whole-house water and want a dedicated drinking-water stage.
  • Anyone who dislikes the taste of tap water or wants to stop buying bottled water.

Treatment role and limits

Role: Point-of-use reverse-osmosis drinking-water system (under-sink, dedicated faucet)

Intended water: Household cold-water supply at the kitchen sink. A dedicated faucet is installed at the sink; the system connects with a kitchen faucet adapter.

Limits

A point-of-use system treats the water at one faucet. It does not soften or filter the rest of the house, and it is not a substitute for disinfection on a microbiologically unsafe supply. Certified claims are listed below; we do not extend them to contaminants that are not on the list.

Five stages

  1. Sediment filter. Protects the system by removing dirt, rust, and sediment as small as 2/10,000 of an inch.
  2. Activated carbon filter. High-capacity 5-micron graded-density carbon. Puronics states this stage effectively reduces PFAS chemicals (the certified claim is PFOA/PFOS under NSF/ANSI 53).
  3. Ultrafiltration. A super-fine barrier to waterborne cysts such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia, if present, with a self-cleaning process. Cyst reduction is a manufacturer description, not among the listed certifications.
  4. Reverse osmosis. A membrane allows water molecules to pass while impurities are flushed to drain. Treated water is stored in a sealed tank.
  5. Carbon-block polish. A high-density carbon block polishes water from the storage tank, removing unpleasant tastes and odors.

Certifications

Water Quality Association Gold Seal: tested and certified under industry standards

Micromax 8500 is Water Quality Association tested and certified to 58, 42, 53, 401, 372 (NSF/ANSI). The table lists exactly what each standard covers.

Puronics states the system is Water Quality Association tested and certified to the following standards. Certification applies to the listed claims under the test conditions of each standard.

Certified claims by standard
StandardWhat it coversNotes
NSF/ANSI 58Reduction of arsenic, barium, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, trivalent chromium, copper, fluoride, lead, radium 226/228, selenium, turbidity, and total dissolved solids (TDS)
NSF/ANSI 42Chlorine taste and odor (aesthetic)
NSF/ANSI 53VOCs and PFOA/PFOS
NSF/ANSI 401Bisphenol A, estrone, ibuprofen, naproxen, nonylphenol (emerging compounds)
NSF/ANSI 372Low-lead compliance of wetted components (construction standard, separate from the NSF/ANSI 58 lead-reduction claim)

NSF/ANSI 372 is a lead-content standard for the product's wetted materials. It is not a water-treatment performance claim. WQA listings should be re-verified at wqa.org/Find-Products for the exact model and date before relying on them.

Care and ownership

  • Replace the Easy Change cartridges on the schedule in the owner’s manual (intervals are not published on the product page; we will confirm from the manual and your water conditions).
  • The RO membrane and storage tank are serviced less often than the pre- and post-filters; the manual sets the interval.
  • Reverse osmosis sends a portion of water to drain during operation; a drain connection under the sink is required.
  • Operational maintenance and replacement requirements are essential for the product to perform as advertised (manufacturer disclaimer).

Warranty

Puronics links a "Water Treatment Warranty" document for this system but does not publish the terms on the product page. The written warranty governs and will be provided with any quote.

"Limited" means the warranty has conditions and exclusions. We will not describe any warranty as covering labor, consumables, or every component unless the written document says so.

Other configurations

Other Puronics configurations may be recommended based on your water assessment. The Micromax 8500 is the drinking-water system we feature, but your whole-house needs are assessed separately.

Contaminants or other substances which can be reduced by this system are not necessarily present in your water.

Micromax 8500 questions

What exactly is the Micromax 8500 certified to reduce?

Under NSF/ANSI 58: arsenic, barium, cadmium, hexavalent and trivalent chromium, copper, fluoride, lead, radium 226/228, selenium, turbidity and TDS. Under NSF/ANSI 53: VOCs and PFOA/PFOS. Under NSF/ANSI 401: bisphenol A, estrone, ibuprofen, naproxen and nonylphenol. Under NSF/ANSI 42: chlorine taste and odor. NSF/ANSI 372 covers low-lead construction. We do not extend these claims to substances not on the list.

How often do the cartridges need changing?

Puronics does not publish intervals on the product page; they are in the owner’s manual and depend on your water. We set the schedule with you at installation. The Easy Change cartridges shut off water automatically when removed, so changes are a quick twist.

Does it need electricity?

No. It operates on household water pressure. We confirm your pressure during the assessment.

Can it feed my refrigerator?

Usually yes; a line can be run from the system to the refrigerator dispenser and ice maker. We plan it during the assessment.

Is the Micromax 8500 right for your water?

The only way to know is to test. We measure your water at home, explain the results, and recommend the configuration that fits, which may be this system or another.
